To build an engine that excels the most power and is reliable, you start to wonder what can be innovated and modified to achieve your goal. SP63 began brainstorming ways they could create a product that would allow an engine to make as much power as possible yet still be durable and reliable. Sooner or later they figured out if they could play around with the clearance of the quench area they could ultimately accomplish and execute their goal.
The quench area can be optimized in multiple forms, from changing the piston design to changing the combustion chamber designs, and much more.
However, to have a better understanding of this process first you need to know what a quench is as well as its advantages in the combustion chamber.
Competitors design their piston and rod combos with zero deck clearance which creates pre-ignition causing detonation, high KR, and damages to the piston rings due to scorching temperatures located in the cylinder.

What is Quench?
The quench is simply the distance between the piston and the cylinder head when the piston is positioned at the top dead center (TDC). More commonly referred to as the "squish." The Quench is responsible for compelling the air-fuel mixture into the combustion chamber area near the spark plug.
Despite the evident advantage of moving the air-fuel mixture towards the source of ignition, quench also averages chamber temperatures, accelerates flame propagation and reduces rich-lean spots.

What are the advantages of quench?
You can think of quench as squishing the air-fuel mixture making it simple to visualize the effect quench has on the mixture itself. To further explain quench here is a simple analogy;
Imagine a puddle of water at a playground as a child in brand spanking new rain boots hops towards it. As the water gets compressed between the child's boots and the ground, the water moves rapidly outward creating a splash. The water droplets that were puddled together are abruptly forced to separate and blend with the air above. They quicken from standing still to moving outward at a high velocity. Turbulence is then replicated in both the air around the puddle and within the puddle itself.
Now, take this analogy and transfer that visualization into the engine cylinder and the advantages of the quench become understandable.
